Jenny Tinmouth at 31 years of age, renowned British road racer will be the first woman in the British Superbike series to line up on the grid and tackle the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship (BSB) under her start number 100!
She will be riding within the Splitlath team and will step up to England’s toughest motorcycle racing series when the 2011 campaign gets under way at Brands Hatch on Easter weekend (April 22-25).
Jenny worked her way up to BSB from national level since 2003 when she raced in the British 125GP Championship, proving to be consistently quick. She became the first female to ever win a British Supersport Cup race on her way to finishing an impressive third in the championship, set a new record for the fastest lap by a female competitor at the famous Isle of Man TT event lapping at an incredible average speed of 119.945mph and won the final round of the Hottrax British Endurance Championship at Cadwell Park in November. Jenny has always been interested in racing ever since she watched her cousin race cars – she wanted to race bikes.
Jenny runs her own Two Wheel Workshop centre in Ellesmere Port. "I'm over the moon to be in BSB this year and I still can't believe it. My ambition has always been to race in BSB; I've been trying for some time and I think all my hard work over the past seasons has finally paid off. I know it will be a massive learning curve but hopefully now people will see that girls can race too and then hopefully more will see it is possible if you work hard enough at it and get into racing too,” Tinmouth said in a statement for the press.
Tinmouth will now begin full-time training for her season ahead, and recently began testing in Spain with last season’s machine before she gets onboard her new Aprilia RSV4. The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season opener is on Easter weekend, from April 22-25 at Brands Hatch.
Though it’s still surprising that Jenny is the first woman to compete in UK’s top motorcycle series, we are certainly happy to see that another "first" has been removed for women in motorsport!
Join us in cheering her on!

women and motorcycles MOTORESS - Harley Blackline

Harley-Davidson's new Blackline - Dark Custom Softail® Motorcycle Features New Fuel Tank Styling and Split DragTM Handlebars!
It's lean as wire, hard as iron, and dark as a tar road at midnight, the new Blackline motorcycle is a Harley-Davidson® Softail® model pared to the bone. A rebellious creation of the Dark Custom movement, the Blackline model celebrates three fundamental elements of motorcycling: mechanical beauty, internal combustion, and the long black line of the road ahead.
The Blackline motorcycle balances allegiance with rebellion, discarding previous conventions of colour and chrome for a Dark Custom look that is honest, functional, and attainable. Visual elements of the original bobber movement are combined with the raw, hand-hewn style embraced by today’s young builders. The Blackline motorcycle, throws new fuel on a fire that burns across generations: an unquenchable desire to ride.
Lean and Tight - Stripped to the legal limit, the BlacklineTM motorcycle keeps decorative trim and lighting sparse. The rear fender is bobbed high and tight over a slim, 144-mm tire that emphasizes an authentic hard-tail profile. The compact headlight and speedometer are tucked low into the wide, FX front end, and there is just enough shine to make the black parts look blacker. Black-rimmed laced wheels complete a look that is tough, tempered, and undeniably typical of the Harley-Davidson® Brand.
The styling spotlight shines on a Big Twin engine dressed in black and silver, and on a fuel tank shaved smooth and low. Aboard the Blackline bike, the rider hugs the frame on the lowest two-up seat ever offered by Harley-Davidson Motor Company, and reaches high for new Split DragTM handlebars that are bolted right to the top triple-clamp.
The Softail® chassis uses rear suspension control provided by coil-over shock absorbers mounted horizontally along the frame rails below the power train, where they are kept out of sight. So while the swing arm section replicates the lines of a vintage hard-tail frame, the Blackline motorcycle delivers suspension performance and handling that are thoroughly modern. The internally counter-balanced Twin Cam 96BTM engine is rigid-mounted within the frame, creating a solid connection between rider and power that moves the motorcycle to enhance the emotional riding experience.
Key features of the 2011 BlacklineTM motorcycle include:
  • NEW Powertrain styling.
-The powertrain is finished with a gloss black powder coating on the rocker box covers, the crankcase, the outer primary cover, and the transmission side cover. The cylinders have a silver powder coating with machined highlights. The derby cover and timing covers are chromed. Rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96BTM V-Twin engine with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), rated at 89 ft. lbs., peak torque at 3,250 rpm. Six-speed Cruise DriveTM transmission.
  • NEW Round air cleaner cover in brilliant chrome.
  • NEW Black Denim powder-coated frame and swingarm.
  • NEW Profile laced aluminum wheels with black anodized rims. Front wheel is 21 x 2.15 inches; rear wheel is 16 x 3 inches. Dunlop® D402 tires are MH90-21 front and MU85B16 rear.
  • NEW FX front end with black powder-coated triple clamps and black painted fork lowers.
  • NEW Split DragTM internally wired handlebars mount directly to the top triple clamp.
  • NEW Asymmetric five-gallon Softail® fuel tank is clean on the left side, with a low-profile fuel fill on the right. Die-cast BlacklineTM trim panel flowing down the centre of the tank is just high enough to cover the fuel pump hardware.
  • NEW Analogue speedometer on a triple-clamp mount that also holds indicator lights. LCD screen on the speedometer includes low-fuel warning and “kilometres to empty” display function.
  • The Canadian configuration features a new bobbed rear fender with centre mounted LED tail light and licence plate illuminator, along with a new composite licence plate holder mounted on the lower edge of the fender.
  • NEW Raw forged rear fender supports are finished in Black Denim powder coating.
  • NEW One-piece, two-up seat and passenger pillion. Laden rider seat height is 24 inches, the lowest two-up seat offered by Harley-Davidson. The gap between the nose of the seat and the fuel tank exposes the top of the frame.
  • NEW 5.75-inch diameter headlamp in a glossy black shell.
  • Polished forward foot controls.
  • Over/under chrome shotgun exhaust.
  • Optional security package with anti-lock braking system and Smart Security System.

The 2010 International Female Ride Day is just a few weeks away and women all over the world are getting prepared for the global occasion. More countries are expected to join in and more women are setting up activities for Friday May 7th. “Even more women are riding this year, as you might well imagine, this is the campaigns 4th year. This event is quite simply, unstoppable! The word continues to spread and women enthusiastically prepare to ride and unite everywhere on this synchronized day around the world!” says Vicki Gray, the founder of the International Female Ride Day and of MOTORESS. Countries that joined in during earlier years have also gained momentum and continue to increase local activities. “We are certainly riding to success as each year we see a truly insurmountable growth from the years’ prior! Even the hallmark ride day t-shirt for 2010 is already in demand”, she adds.
For this 4th edition, Vicki Gray also observes an increase of the recognition of the event amongst the motorcycle industry around the world. “The popularity of this event comes from the concept and the fact that it invites women riding all brands, styles and types of motorcycles. This gives the industry an opportunity to share their support and get involved”, says Vicki. As before, participants will be able to upload/send in their picture to MOTORESS or post them on the facebook group and event page. “We’ll send out a free souvenir again this year, to the first 100 photos received. This continues to be well-liked”, adds Vicki.
Participants can go the MOTORESS facebook group or event page to post their activities and plans for Friday 7 May while networking with others. In Toronto, there will be a rally for the ride home at the end of the day. Women will be able to order the special 2010 Female Ride Day t-shirt as a souvenir online. This year the t-shirt will be in natural bamboo fabric, the latest trend in eco friendly fabrics.
Sport bike, cruiser, scooter, off-road, touring or competition, regardless of what type or style of motorcycle interest, International FEMALE RIDE DAY makes one simple request of women – Just Ride! Get on your bikes, be out there and be visible. The concept has assembled its power and participation in this simple, globally synchronized theme linking the chain of women through the shared activity of motorcycling. One day to celebrate and highlight the many numbers of women who share a passion for the sport. The fact that every rider participating is a role model for women, who have not yet taken their first step to enjoy motorcycling, is a role worth embracing.
At its inception in 2007, the campaign became an immediate success as women embraced the chance to participate. International FEMALE RIDE DAY fever significantly magnifies each year and 2010 expects to host more riders and participants than the previous years. Canada, United States, Australia, England, The Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Poland, Israel, Qatar and Denmark as well as other countries will again be contributing to the campaign in compelling numbers.

let"s ride

Women and Motorcycling Motoress

International Female Ride Day is a global campaign for women motorcyclists who own, ride or have access to a motorcycle. The day invites women to “JUST RIDE”. By participating and riding on this united day women underline and demonstrate their passion, ability and enthusiasm for the activity.  Women participants as well contribute to the activity on this day as well, by building awareness of female motorcyclists. This worldwide, synchronized unified presence additionally demonstrates to others the fun and enjoyment females of all diversities share in this wonderful activity of motorcycling!
The event occurs on the first Friday of May each year. Women participate by simply being on their motorcycle to "JUST RIDE" ...
…to work
…to meet a friend(s)
…to a fitness class
…to their local motorcycle retailer
…to a country road
…to take an off road or track day course
…to a shopping mall
…to your friends charity event and so on.
The day invites women to be on a motorcycle. It is not an organised ride, not a charity or a fundraiser and this is to ensure the events core message remains clear —that of highlighting women motorcyclists! However, many groups, clubs and women incorporate their own purpose, cause or fund raiser to whatever they organise on the day! We've introduced a campaign to spend as desired and only ask that women get out on their motorcycle and "JUST RIDE"!
Motorcycles of all brands, types, styles and capacities are welcome! Street, off road/dirt or scooter, sport, duo-purpose, cruiser, touring, trike or ATV!
This is one day devoted to women riders! Women of all ages and all experience levels demonstrating their personal passion, pleasure and camaraderie alone or together in the activity of motorcycling- around the world!
